CPR / First Aid Instructor Certification

Official American Heart ASsociation TRaining and Certification

CPR / First Aid Instructor Course

We offer training for individuals to become a certified CPR Instructor. An individual seeking this advanced certification is required to be a certified Heartsaver AED provider (meaning that they have a current course completion card for any Heartsaver course.)

This person will also need 2 letters of recommendation. One from their CPR course director attesting to their superior performance and one other person who has current knowledge of the petitioners teaching skills. The training occurs in three separate sections. First is an online program which takes about 8 hrs. to complete. Once your online certificate is secured, you will attend a "hands on" training day. This 10 hour day will teach how to instruct and evaluate CPR skills. You will get an opportunity to teach/remediate your fellow classmates during this class. This is not a time to learn the cpr skills, but to learn to teach and remediate skills.

Candidates CPR skills will be evaluated at the start of the "hands on" day and if found superior, will be allowed to continue in the course. After the course, the individual will also need to complete a period of monitored teaching prior to achieving Instructor status which is valid for two years. AHA suggests that this monitoring occur within 90 days of the course.
